Banana Peppers

One thing that my garden grows a lot of is banana peppers. If you don’t grow your own banana peppers, you can find them at the grocery store or farmer’s market. Personally I love to suppor local farmers!

Banana peppers always grow well for me, and this year is no different. I have a 5 gallon bucket’s worth in my kitchen as we speak waiting on me to do something with.

I love canning banana peppers and always have them on hand ready. Have you ever tried my Hot Pepper Mustard? You must!

How to Make Stuffed Banana Peppers With Sausage

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Next, you’ll need to clean the peppers. Using a small paring knife, slice the top of the peppers in half and remove the seeds and membrane. I like to leave my stem on because I think it’s pretty.
  3. Then, in a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage, cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic salt, & pepper.
  4. Lay peppers in a single row and stuff the meat mixture into the hollowed, cleaned peppers.
  5. Place the stuffed banana peppers in a baking dish. Cook for 25-30 minutes. You can use parchment paper for easier cleanup.

That’s it – so easy!

Tips for Making Stuffed Banana Peppers

  • You can use hot banana peppers or sweet banana peppers. I like spicy foods, so I prefer to use hot banana peppers.
  • You can use any type of sausage (hot sausage or mild Italian sausage).

Variations

This stuffed banana peppers recipe is perfect just the way it is, but feel free to get creative!

Here are some ideas to change it up:

  • Add sautéed onion.
  • Toss in some minced garlic into the sausage mixture when cooking.
  • Sprinkle with red pepper flakes.
  • Top with fine crumbs (like small breadcrumbs) before baking. It will get toasty on top of the melted cheese. You could also add some parmesan cheese to the breadcrumbs before topping the peppers.
  • Seve with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
  • Grab some Ritz crackers and cut up the cooked peppers. Smear the chopped banana peppers with all the filling on the crackers. YUM!

Make Ahead Stuffed Banana Peppers With Sausage

I’ll make up a super large batch of these & freeze them with my food saver for future meals.

I usually bake them before I freeze them. I have frozen them with the peppers uncooked but the texture and flavor is noticeably yummier when you take the time to cook them before putting them in the freezer.

Ways to Serve Cheesy Sausage Stuffed Banana Peppers

These bad boys make a great game day appetizer!

Serve them alongside other tasty appetizers and crowd pleasers such as my jalapeno popper dip, the best deviled eggs ever, and bacon stuffed mushrooms.

Storing Stuffed Banana Peppers

Store any leftovers (doubtful!) in an airtight containter for up to 4 days.

Freeze Cheesy Sausage Stuffed Banana Peppers

If you want to freeze these, then lay them in a single layer on a freezer-safe baking sheet and place in freezer.

Once they have been individually froze, you can put them in a large freezer bag or combine in a container and freeze for up to 3 months.

It’s best to let them thaw naturally before reheating.
