Hey y’all, I’m Crystal – aka Mrs Happy Homemaker
Welcome to my cozy corner of the internet, where Southern comfort meets everyday practicality. I’m a proud homeschooling mom of three, a homesteader with big dreams, a widow navigating life with grace, and a self-proclaimed biscuit queen. If you’re looking for heartfelt stories, down-home recipes, and a sprinkle of humor, you’re in the right place.

A Name You Won’t Forget
Let’s get this out of the way early—you’re probably not going to forget my name. I’m Crystal Light, just like the drink. And if that wasn’t fun enough, my grandpa was Buddy Light—but everyone just called him Bud Light. It’s the kind of thing that makes people smile and say, “Well, I won’t forget you!” And honestly, that’s part of why I love sharing it. Plus, it’s a little tribute to my roots!
A Journey of Love, Loss, and New Beginnings
This blog began as a joint venture with my late husband, Michael. Together, we shared a passion for family, food, and the simple joys of life. Tragically, in 2015, Michael passed away unexpectedly at the age of 33. Our world was turned upside down, and my children—then just 5, 14, and 15—faced a reality no child should endure. I was out of town & our children found their father deceased while on the phone with me. Traumatic doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Seeking healing and support, we moved from our beloved Randolph County, North Carolina, to North Georgia to be closer to my mom and stepdad. Leaving behind our home and my local TV segment on Fox8 News was heart-wrenching, but being near family provided the comfort and strength we needed.

Embracing the Homestead Life
Today, we reside on a humble homestead nestled in the North Georgia countryside. Our days are filled with tending to chickens, cultivating a sprawling vegetable garden, and preserving the fruits of our labor through canning and drying. Homesteading isn’t just a lifestyle; it’s a testament to resilience, self-sufficiency, and the beauty of living intentionally.

Your comment about not being Amish and your kids being socialized despite being homeschooled made me laugh and I just had to comment, I was homeschooled myself and feel like I was always telling people the same thing! This is a sweet little blog you have here, thanks for sharing all these great recipes! 🙂
A friend shared your FB page with me because she felt I woukd enjoy it. 1. Because I too lost my husband of 21 years 10 1/2 months ago and 2. I love to cook (well I use to before Oct 28)
I to am from NC and found it very comical when you said your addicted to sweet tea because just today I told my daughter (20) that while I may be cutting back on my bread intake (took up walking to get healthy and lose weight but it’s slow coming off so I thought I would jump start by cutting back on some things). But I informed her I would NOT NEVER cut out my sweet tea. Lol
I just spent the about 2 hours exploring your FB Instagram and Web pages. I look forward following along from here on out.
(I also just had to retype this whole msg because it frozen on me and I lost it)
