Ingredients for Copycat Little Debbie Christmas Donuts
These ingredients come together to make a copycat recipe that’s just as delightful as those Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes!
Here’s What You Need to Make These Copycat Donuts:
- Flour: You can use all-purpose flour for this Little Debbie donut recipe.
- Baking Soda and Baking Powder: These two work together to help the donuts rise and stay soft.
- Sugar: Granulated sugar adds sweetness to the donuts, making them taste just like the classic snack cakes we remember.
- Eggs: The eggs help hold everything together and add richness to the batter.
- Vanilla: Just a splash of vanilla extract brings a warm flavor. I’ve substituted this for almond extract once and it was still really good!
- Melted Butter: A bit of melted butter makes the donuts moist and adds some richness.
- Frosted Sugar Cookie Coffee Creamer: This is my secret ingredient! It’s what makes these donuts taste like a homemade version of Little Debbie Christmas Trees!
- White Melting Chocolate: Dipping each donut in white chocolate adds a sweet coating that looks just like snow!
- Red Melting Chocolate: We’ll melt this to drizzle over the donuts instead of using red frosting, giving that holiday look with pretty red lines.
- Green Sanding Sugar: Sprinkling on green sugar really makes these things look like the original!
- Coconut Oil (optional): I like to use a bit of coconut oil with the melting chocolate to make it smoother and shinier. It’s optional, so don’t sweat it if you don’t have any.
How to Make Copycat Little Debbie Christmas Donuts
Get Oven Ready: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix the Dry Ingredients: Start by adding your flour, baking soda, sugar, and baking powder to a large bowl. Whisk everything together until it’s nice and smooth.
Add the Wet Ingredients: Pour in your eggs, a splash of vanilla, melted butter, and frosted sugar cookie coffee creamer. Use an electric mixer to beat it on high until the batter is well combined and smooth.
Prepare the Donut Pan: Grab your donut pan and spray it down with cooking spray to keep the donuts from sticking. Pour your batter into a piping bag and fill each donut mold halfway—don’t overfill, or they’ll puff up too much.
Bake the Donuts: Pop the pan into a 350-degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Keep an eye on them; you want them just baked through, soft and bouncy, not dry. Let them cool completely on a wire rack.
Melt the White Chocolate: In a small bowl, melt your white melting chocolate in the microwave, one minute at a time, stirring in between. If you like, add a teaspoon of coconut oil to make the chocolate smoother.
Dip and Decorate the Donuts: Dip each donut in the melted white chocolate and set it back on the wire rack with parchment paper underneath. Sprinkle on some green sanding sugar right away before the chocolate sets.
Add the Red Drizzle: Melt down your red melting chocolate the same way as the white. Pour it into a piping bag and cut a small tip. Drizzle a few lines of red chocolate across the top of each donut for that holiday look.
Let Everything Set: Let the chocolate harden on the donuts, so they’re ready to serve.
How to Store Donuts
- Room Temperature: If you plan to eat them within a day or two, you can keep the donuts in an airtight container at room temperature. Place parchment paper between the layers if you stack them to keep the decorations neat and prevent sticking.
- Refrigerator: For longer storage, place the donuts in a single layer in an airtight container in the fridge. They’ll stay fresh for up to 4-5 days. Let them sit at room temperature for a bit before serving so they’re soft and delicious.
- Freezer: If you want to keep them even longer, you can freeze them! Place the donuts on a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and let them freeze solid. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container. When you’re ready to enjoy, let them thaw in the fridge or at room temperature.
