In addition to being full of yumminess, my cheesy garlic bread recipe is super easy to make!
Why You’ll Love Garlic Cheese Bread
- Easy Recipe: Just a handful of ingredients and a few minutes of prep makes it perfect for busy nights.
- Cheesy and Buttery: Loaded with cheese and garlic butter, it melts in your mouth.
- Pairs with Anything: Serve it with pasta dishes, soups, or as a side dish for any meal.
- Better Than Store-Bought: Once you taste homemade cheesy garlic bread, you won’t go back to the grocery store kind.
Ingredients Needed
- Loaf of French Bread: You’ll need one loaf of French bread, sliced in half.
- Mayo: This may sound surprising (and it’s my secret ingredient!), but a little bit of mayonnaise makes the cheese mixture extra creamy and rich.
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese: The best cheese for a cheesy pull-apart garlic bread texture.
- Minced Garlic OR Garlic Powder: Fresh garlic gives the best garlic bread flavor, but garlic powder works great too!
- Unsalted Butter: Softened butter makes the garlic butter spread so rich and delicious.
- Italian Seasoning (Optional): Want a little extra Italian herbs flavor? Sprinkle some Italian seasoning on top of the bread before baking.
How to Make Garlic Cheese Bread
Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400 degrees.
Make the Garlic Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, mix together mayo, mozzarella cheese, minced garlic (or garlic powder), and softened unsalted butter. Stir until everything is well combined. The garlic mixture should spread easily and soak into the soft bread.
Prepare the Bread: Take your loaf of French bread and slice it longways so you have two thick slices. Place them on a baking sheet, cut side up.
Spread the Garlic Butter Mixture: Use a spoon or spatula to spread the cheese mixture evenly over the top of the bread. Be sure to get it all the way to the edges.
Add More Cheese and Seasoning: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese evenly over both halves of the bread. If you like extra flavor, add a little bit of Italian seasoning or fresh herbs like fresh parsley. You can also add red pepper flakes for some heat!
Bake Until Golden Brown: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t burn!
Slice and Serve: Once baked, take your garlic cheese bread recipe out of the oven and let it cool for a minute. Then, use a serrated knife to cut it into slices of bread.
Ways to Serve Garlic Cheese Bread
- With Pasta Dishes: Nothing beats dipping a warm slice of cheesy garlic bread into a big bowl of spaghetti, lasagna, or fettuccine Alfredo.
- As a Side Dish: Serve it with soups, salads, or any Italian recipes for an extra flavorful meal.
- Dipped in Marinara: Grab a piece and dunk it into some zesty marinara sauce or ranch dressing for a tasty snack or appetizer.
- Make a Sandwich: Use it as sandwich bread for an elevated grilled cheese or a meatball sub.

How to Store Leftovers
If you’ve got leftover bread, don’t let it go to waste! You can wrap it up in plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container in the fridge. It’ll stay fresh for 2-3 days.
When you’re ready to eat it again, pop it in the air fryer or oven to crisp it back up—don’t use the microwave, or it’ll turn soggy.
For longer storage, freeze thick slices wrapped in foil. Then, just bake them next time you need a quick and cheesy garlic bread fix!

Thanks for sharing. I had this for dinner tonite. A MAZE ING. So yummy.
Yay!! So glad you liked it! I go crazy over this myself! 🙂
DEFINITELY, Best ever! For restaurant style cheesy bread, eliminate the french bread and spread it on pizza dough. I’ve used those pizza mixes that you just add water. Nice soft gooey cheesy bread! Double everything and it makes a cookie sheet size, you’ll need it! I used dried basil, salt n pepper, parmesan cheese to taste. I don’t skimp on the cheese. I’ve used Colby/ Jack before(it’s good). I spray the top with olive oil too ( mist). Bake at 425° for 15-18 minutes.
